Edward Pope died at Perth, Western Australia, on January 23rd, 1920, at the age of 66 years.
Between the years 1878 and 1882 he took a course of instruction at the School of Mines at Gympie, Queensland, but two years previously he’s already engaged in alluvial gold mining in the district. From 1882 to 1895, while still resident in Australia, he engaged in various forms of business all more or less connected with mining, which included acting as secretary, ‘legal manager,’ director and managing director, of many, mining companies.
In 1895 he came to London to reside, and joined the boards of the Golden Australia, Ltd., the London & Foreign Contract Corporation, Ltd., and the West Australian Mining Co., Ltd., as director and consulting mining engineer, in each case holding the position for a number of years.
In 1897, Mr. Pope visited Australia again to make examinations and reports on, mining properties. In 1914, he examined tin mines at Helston, Cornwall. He was during his later years chairman and director of a number of companies, including the Kalgoorlie Electric Power and Lighting Corporation, and Australian, Cornish and Burma mines, and he acted as consulting engineer in many instances. He was engaged on a professional visit to Australia at his death.
Mr. Pope was elected a Member of the Institution in 1914.
