Robert Murray Park died in Geneva on 17th May, 1961, at the age of 63.
Mr. Park received his technical training at Armstrong College, Durham University, between 1920 and 1923, graduating B.Sc. in Mining. He was assistant engineer at the Lee pit of Brinkburn Coal Co., Ltd., Northumberland, for six months and then became underground workman and official at Silksworth colliery of Lambton, Hetton and Joicey Collieries, Ltd., Co. Durham, where he remained until August, 1925.
He was manager of the Allendale mines of Weardale Lead Co., Ltd., Co. Durham, from 1925 to 1931, and for the following six years held the post of traffic manager with John Bowes and Partners, Ltd., Co. Durham.
Mr. Park left for West Africa in May, 1938, to take up the appointment of assistant mine captain at Ashanti mine, Obuasi, with Ashanti Goldfields Corporation, Ltd. He was promoted assistant mines manager in 1944, and in 1947 was appointed technical assistant on the London office staff of the Corporation, continuing to act as relieving manager. In 1948 he was appointed consulting engineer and remained in that position until 1956.
Mr. Park left England late in 1956 for Geneva, where he was engaged on United Nations assignments with the International Labour Office.
Mr. Park was elected to Associate Membership of the Institution in l927 but resigned in 1932. He was re-elected to Associate Membership in 1944 and transferred to Membership in 1947.
