Joseph Giammusso Oliveri died in the early summer of 1918.
He received his professional training at the Royal School of Mines of Sicily, where he obtained a Government Diploma of the 1st Class in mining engineering and surveying. From that time onward until his decease his whole life was spent among the sulphur mines of Sicily. In 1885 he was appointed engineer and surveyor to the Giona sulphur mines, Racalmuto, Sicily; and in 1887 he became manager of those mines, a position which he held for twenty-six years. He ultimately acquired the ownership of the greater part of the property.
Mr. Oliveri was elected a Member of the Institution in 1905.
