Eugene Florian Oliphant Murray died in Messina on 15 May, 1966, at the age of 80.
Educated at Camborne School of Mines, he spent two years in India with Dhunpore Himalayan Syndicate as assayer and surveyor before moving to Egypt in 1909, where he spent a year as general assistant with Barramia Gold Mining Co. He returned to India in 1911, joining Cape Copper Co., Ltd., as assistant superintendent. From 1915 to 1918 Mr. Murray held the position of superintendent of Dhalbhoom Gold and Minerals Co., then taking up a similar position with Great India Phosphate Co.
In 1920 he became the lessee of gold, copper, phosphate and refractory properties in India, which he held until 1964 when the properties were nationalized. During that time he undertook consulting work throughout India.
Mr. Murray was elected to Associate Membership of the institution in 1918.
