John Alexander Wilson Murdoch died in Peru in 1929.
He served his apprenticeship in the office of Mr. George H. Geddes, mining engineer, in Edinburgh, from the end of 1885 to May, 1889. In 1890, he entered the works of the Cassel Gold Extracting Co., Ltd., in Glasgow, as draughtsman and engineer. In 1892, he went to Chili for the company as engineer and assistant to Mr. William Jones, M. Inst. M.M., and three years later he was appointed manager of the South American (West Coast) branch of the Cassel Company’s business, a position which he held for a number of years. After working in conjunction with Messrs. Duncan Fox & Co. for several years, he joined the staff of the Morococha Mining Company, in Peru, in 1909, and later became manager of that mine and the Cerro de Pasco copper mine. He remained with the Cerro de Pasco Copper Corporation until his death.
Mr. Murdoch was elected a Member of the Institution in 1897.
