Frank Townsend Mumford died at Marseilles in September, 1912.
In 1896 and 1897 he was a student at the Camborne School of Mines and for two succeeding years he held the position of general assistant on the Waitekauri gold mine, Auckland, N.Z. During 1900 and 1901 he was assistant metallurgist at the South Kalgurli gold mine, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, where he was in charge of the cyaniding work.
In 1902 he engaged in research work on his own account in connection with a patent for the electrical precipitation of gold from cyanide solutions by means of a mercury cathode. In the following year he was appointed-mining; engineer in charge and undertook the work of inspecting and reporting on various mining properties for the British Central Africa Co., Ltd.
Mr. Mumford was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1903.
