Hans Soren Meyer died in the Transvaal in July, 1922, aged 44.
Having passed the London Matriculation (1st; Class) in 1893, he studied at the London School of Mines and graduated in 1897 as A.R.S.M. in Mining (1st Class), being the ‘De La Beche’ Medal and Government prize for mining. He then went to South Africa, where he was in the employment of Messrs. H. Eckstein & Co., Ltd., and the Central Mining & Investment Corporation, Ltd., for the remainder of his career. He was successively in capacities on the Longlaagte Deep Ltd., the Geldenuis Deep, Ltd., the Robinson G.M. Co., the Crown Deep, Ltd, Rand Mines, Ltd., and Jumpers Deep Ltd., until 1905, when he was appointed engineer to the Rand Mines Ltd., and assistant to the general manager and consulting engineer to the subsidiary companies. He was President of the Chemical, Metallurgical and Mining Society of South African in 1918-19.
Mr Meyer was elected a Member of the Institution in 1911.
