Thomas Robert Mackintosh died on 22nd February, 1955, at the age of 65.
He was born in Scotland. After a year’s practical training in Johannesburg, Mr. Mackintosh went to Southern Rhodesia in 1910 and remained there throughout his career. He held the position of reduction plant and general surface superintendent at Pickstone and Mabel’s Luck mines for two years, then managed Sallie and Empress mines from 1912 to 1913, and was joint manager of the Heroine mine for the following six months.
Mr. Mackintosh was appointed shift superintendent at the Cam and Motor mine in May, 1914, and from 1916 to 1917 worked as shift boss on the roasting plant at Globe and Phoenix mine.
From 1920 he was employed by Rezende Mines, Ltd., in various capacities at Kent mines, Monarch, Reliance and Olive options. He was shaft foreman during sinking operations at Penhalonga, and was in charge of the plant construction at Rezende West mine and later was section engineer. He was subsequently appointed assistant engineer at Rezende, but for about the last ten years had worked with Cam and Motor Gold Mining Co. (1919), Ltd.
Mr. Mackintosh was elected to Associate Membership of the Institution in 1944.
