Brian McInerney died in Sekondi Hospital, Gold Coast, on April 11th, 1943, at the age of 37.
An Australian by birth, he began his work in 1920 as a learner, and later assistant, in the assay department of the Oroya Links gold mine at Fimiston, Western Australia, and in 1926 left to join the metallurgical staff of the Associated Gold Mines of Western Australia (New), Ltd. During the period 1923-29 he also studied metallurgy at the Western Australian School of Mines, Kalgoorlie. From 1930 to 1934 he was mill shift boss and relieving assayer to the Wiluna Gold Mines. Ltd., and in the following year was metallurgist to Renown Gold Mines and Marvel Loch Gold Development, N.L., successively.
In 1936 he left Australia to take a post as metallurgist at the Konongo gold mine, Gold Coast, and in 1939 came to England and was appointed metallurgist at the Greenside lead mine. Then followed a year as chief assayer with the Saudi Arabian Mining Syndicate, Ltd., and in 1942 he left again for the Gold Coast to take a post at the Dokuripe mine. Mr. McInerney was employed by Marlu Gold Areas shortly before his death.
He was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1937.
