José Gascuñana y Martin died through an underground accident at the Centenillo Mines, La Carolina, Spain, on August 14th, 1916, at the age of 24 years.
He studied at the Madrid School of Mines from October, 1909, to June, 1914, and then proceeded to the Centenillo Mines to take the six months’ post graduate course with which the training of the Madrid School of Mines terminates. On the conclusion of his course he remained in the employment of the company, and at the time of his death was temporarily in charge of the underground department, in places of Mr. J.V. Moore, who had left a few weeks previously to join the British Forces.
Mr. Gascufiana was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1915.
