Frank Ernest Mair died at Penzance, Cornwall, on August 10th, 1942, at the age of 64.
He graduated from the Royal School of Mines in 1900, and two years later went to the Mines Department of the Federated Malay States, where he filled the positions of inspector of mines and acting assistant warden of mines at Perak.
He retired from Government service in 1905, and after a few years spent as manager and consulting engineer to tin mines in the peninsula, he joined Messrs. Osborne & Chappel, of Ipoh, in 1911, and remained a partner in the firm until his retirement from professional life in 1921. He still retained an active interest, as chairman and director of several tin mining companies in Malaya, but he returned to England in 1925, and lived at different times in Kent and Cornwall.
Mr. Mair was elected a Member of the Institution in 1911.
