Nicholas A. Loggin died in British Columbia, in July, 1918.
Before entering the mining profession he was engaged for about three years as assistant engineer to Mr. R.J. Gifford Read, during which period he was occupied in several important works, including the layout of the Beton Viaduct, and obtained considerable experience in dealing with metals.
In about 1896, he turned his attention more particularly to mining and metallurgical work, and shortly afterwards specialized on placer mining in Colorado and British Columbia, more particularly with regard to hydraulic sluicing. He contributed a paper on the subject to the Transactions of the Institution in 1911 (Trans., vol. xx), the practical information in which attracted attention.
Mr. Loggin was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1899.
