Kenneth Ernest Lee died at Johannesburg, on July 19th, 1942, at the age of 30.
He completed his course at the Royal School of Mines in 1934, having graduated with the degrees of A.R.S.M. and B.Sc. in both mining engineering and mining geology, in each case with first-class honours. He also received the Brough, Warington Smyth and Watts medals.
His first appointment was in August, 1934, as shift boss at the Ariston Gold Mines (1929), Ltd., Gold Coast Colony, and in the following year he was appointed staff surveyor and assistant inspector of mines in the Uganda, Protectorate.
In 1938 he left East Africa to take up a position as inspector of mines in the Federated Malay States, and on leaving that post early in 1941 he went to South Africa as lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Mr. Lee was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1933.
