William Patrick Leal died in India on May 28th, 1944, at the age of 60.
Born in Ireland, he was educated at St. Andrew’s College, Dublin, and then served a six-year mechanical and electrical engineering apprenticeship in Glasgow.
From 1908 to 1910 he was employed as an electrical engineer at the Burma Oil Co.’s refineries at Rangoon, and for the following three years was a partner in a motor and general engineering concern there. In May, 1913, Mr. Leal was appointed engineer and battery manager to the Kanbauk Wolfram mines, until 1919, when he became assistant manager to the Indo-Burma Tin Corporation, Ltd. He was promoted superintendent and manager in Burma in November, 1920, retaining this position when the company was changed in 1924 to the Tavoy Tin Dredging Corporation, Ltd. From 1929 until his death Mr. Leal held the appointment of district manager for Burma for Anglo-Oriental (Malaya), Ltd.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1934.
