Thomas Johnson underwent a five years’ course as a metallurgical student at the Birmingham Municipal Technical School, and on completion, in 1890, he entered the employment of Messrs. John Wilkes, Sons and Mapplebeck, Ltd., of Birmingham, with whom he remained until 1907. During the greater part of that period he was in full charge of the laboratory, and he was also closely connected with the superintendence of the copper refining and smelting departments.
From 1908 to 1912 Mr. Johnson was manager of the English and Australian Copper Co.’s smelting and refining works at Waratah, N.S.W. He returned to England in 1918. Mr, Johnson was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1909.
