Sidney Johnston Jennings died in New York on November 17th, 1928, at the age of 65.
He was born in Kentucky, and graduated in 1885 from the Lawrence Scientific School, Harvard University. He held positions on several mines in the United States during the next few years, and in 1890, went to South Africa with his brother, the late Hennen Jennings, and became associated with the Eckstein group of mines on the Rand. He was in turn manager of the De Beers Consolidated, the Crown Deep, and Langlaagte Deep, and consulting engineer to the Crown Reef, and Robinson gold mines.
In 1907, he left the Rand to join the staff of the United States Smelting, Refining, and Mining Co., in New York, and he continued to work with that company until his death.
Mr. Jennings was elected a Member of the Institution in 1900, and was at Member of Council for three years, 1906-9.
