Major Dermot Horace Thomas Hanbury, Royal Engineers, was killed on service with the East Asia Command in January, 1944.
He received his technical training at the Royal School of Mines and obtained the A.R.S.M. in Mining in 1932. In the same year he left for South Africa and until joining the Army during the present war was employed in the mines of Union Corporation, Ltd., as sampler, assistant surveyor, and chief surveyor.
Major Hanbury was elected a Student of the Institution in 1932.
