Arthur Griffith died suddenly on 5th April, 1957, at the age of 68.
Mr. Griffith was educated at Caernarvon County School, North Wales, and in 1905 was articled for three years to the surveyor and engineer to Festiniog District Council. He became a junior surveyor and draughtsman to Richard Hall, F.R.I.B.A., in 1908, and two years later joined the engineering staff of Anglo-French Exploration Co., Ltd., as junior draughtsman.
During 1914-18 Mr. Griffith served in the Royal Engineers, and after the war returned to the engineering department of Anglo-French Exploration Co., Ltd., and was put in charge of this department in 1937. From 1940 to 1943 his services were lent to Geevor Tin Mines, Ltd., Cornwall, which he periodically visited later. His duties as chief statistician and resident engineer with Anglo-French Exploration Co., Ltd., involved travelling and reporting on mining properties in South Africa and Northern Rhodesia. He was still employed by that company at the time of his unexpected death.
Mr. Griffith was elected an Affiliate of the Institution in 1949.
