Fritz Gillman died in Nottingham towards the close of 1925, at the age of 80.
He began his technical training by attending lectures in mining at the Royal School of Mines in Jermyn Street, in 1862, and in the following and four subsequent years he studied mining and metallurgy in all its branches, except as regarded iron, at the Royal Mining Academy, Freiberg, Saxony.
During 1866 and 1867 he was engaged in the mining and milling of gold ores in North Wales, and for the succeeding 20 years he was continuously occupied with mining and smelting operations in Spain, partly for a private company and partly on his own account, first at Linares on lead ores, afterwards in Granada on lead, copper, silver, and quicksilver ores, and at Sierra Guadarrama on silver ores.
From 1886 to 1891 he engaged in consulting work in various countries, and in the latter year returned to Spa-in as chief engineer to the Société Miniere d’Alora, of Paris and Malaga. In 1909 he returned to England and settled down in Derbyshire, removing two years later to Nottingham, where he lived until his death.
Mr. Gillman was elected a Member of the Institution in 1893.
