Bertram William Ferris died on February 22nd, 1939, at the age of 34.
In 1921 he entered the Royal Ordnance Factories, Woolwich, for training as a mechanical engineer, and obtained a scholarship to the Royal School of Mines, leaving in 1928 with the A.R.S.M. He then joined the staff of Holman Brothers, Ltd., and after spending about a year in their works at Camborne and visiting mines and quarries in England, Wales and Scotland on the firm’s behalf, he was appointed resident engineer in the Federated Malay States and Siam. He was invalided home in 1933, and subsequently was for some time in Cornwall and later in the London office of Messrs. Holman Brothers.
Mr. Ferris was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1927 and was elected an Associate in 1932.
