William Eric Evans died in Kuala Lumpur Hospital on 16th April, 1951, at the age of 35.
He was Canadian born, but received his training at the School of Metalliferous Mining (Cornwall) from 1934 to 1937, when he was awarded the A.C.S.M. From 1937 until 194 he was employed at Champion Reef Gold Mines, Ltd., India, first as assistant surveyor and later as underground agent, and from 1941 to 1946 held a commission in the Royal Indian Engineers, serving with the Paiforce in India, Burma and Malaya.
In 1947 Mr. Evans joined the staff of Gold Coast Main Reef, Ltd., as shift boss, leaving in 1950 on his appointment as Assistant Inspector of Mines, Malaya. He was wounded when a sentry shot at his car in the curfew area of Kuala Kubu, and died the following day.
Mr. Evans was elected to Associate Membership of the Institution in 1941.
