Percival Richard Evans was killed by a bomb in France in September, 1917. He held the rank of Major in the Royal Air Force at the date of his death.
His technical education was obtained at the Camborne School of Mines, and on the completion of his course there he went to the Transvaal, where for seven successive years he was with the Crown Reef G.M. Co., of which two years were spent in underground mining, two years on the cyaniding plant, and the remaining three years as assistant assayer, head sampler and assistant, afterwards acting chief, surveyor. For upwards of a year subsequently he was mine manager to the Magdalene Copper Co. in Natal, and then became assistant to Mr. H.S. Stark, consulting engineer, at Johannesburg. In 1907 he joined the staff of the Witwatersrand Deep, at Knights, and in the following year was in Southern Rhodesia. In 1910 he was with the Fanti Mines, Abosso. Gold Coast Colony, but returned to Rhodesia in 1911 and was there until the outbreak of war when he joined H.M. Forces.
He obtained a commission in the royal Horse Artillery (Chestnut Troop), and was subsequently transferred to the Royal Air Force.
Mr. Evans was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1907.
