Albert Spencer Ellam died in Northern Nigeria on July 8th, 1918, aged 47 years.
His earliest mining experience was obtained in California and Nevada, and in 1890 he was engaged in gold mining in Hungary, and from 1891 to 1892 in antimony and quicksilver mining in Austria.
From 1898 onwards he was for several years in practice as a consulting mining engineer in London, but from 1909 to the time of his decease he had been engaged for the most part in West African enterprises, and his death occurred whilst he was on his way up country to take charge of the Abu Tin Mines.
Mr. Ellam was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1892, and transferred to Membership in 1897.
