Ernest Edwards died at Salisbury, Rhodesia, on April 10th, 1926, following an operation.
He entered the Otago School of Mines, New Zealand, in 1892 and graduated as an Associate in the mining division in 1894, working during the vacations in collieries, gold, and silver mines. On completing his course he went to Tasmania where for three years he was assayer on the Western silver mine, Zeehan. After some months spent in New South Wales on various mines, he spent a year in Abyssinia and the Sudan, prospecting and mining. This was followed by a few months’ assaying in Norway, after which he returned to Australia to the Sons of Gwalia mine, W.A., and later to take charge of Messrs. Bewick & Moreing’s survey office in Melbourne.
From 1908 he was chief assistant to the resident mining engineer of the Chartered Co., in Bulawayo, Rhodesia.
Mr. Edwards was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1903 and was transferred to Membership in 1912.
