Richard Stonhewer Illingworth died in 1910, at the age of 33.
He was educated at Wellington College and Cambridge University, and on completion of his college course was apprenticed to, Messrs. Holman Bros. of Camborne, during which period he studied at the Camborne School of Mines. Subsequently he was engaged in sinking operations at the Windsor Colliery, Cardiff.
From 1899 to 1901 he was with the St. John del Rey Mining Co., in Brazil, and from 1902 to 1904 occupied successively the positions of assistant surveyor, sampler and shift-boss at the Geldenhuis Deep Gold Mining Co., South Africa. In 1906, he was at the Copper Cliff Mines, Montana, and from 1907 to 1910 was with the Bonmahon Copper Mines Development Syndicate, Ltd., Waterford, Ireland.
Mr. Illingworth was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1904.
