Henry Anderson Coates died in July, 1952, in Australia, at the age of 66.
He was of Australian nationality, and from 1916 to 1919 held the position of assistant manager of Deebook Dredging, N.L., Katoo Deebook, N.L., and Bangnon Valley, N.L., at Renong, Siam. In 1920 he took the appointment of assistant manager of Taiping Tin Dredging and North Taiping Tin Dredging Companies, and during the five years in this post served from time to time as acting general manager. In 1925 he was appointed general manager of the Klang River Tin Dredging Co., Ltd., Petaling, Selangor, and remained in this post until 1929. Mr. Coates was then employed by Messrs. Henggeler and Martin, Ltd., Kuala Lumpur, as field superintendent for twelve months before being made director and co-manager of the firm in 1930. In May, 1933, he was appointed director and co-manager of Anglo-Oriental (Malaya), Ltd., and became a director of many tin mining companies. He returned to Australia in 1946.
Mr. Coates was elected to Membership of the Institution in 1938.
