George Stewart Scott Duns died on June 17th, 1946, at Birkenhead General Hospital, at the age of 48.
He received his professional training at the Heriot-Watt College, Edinburgh, obtaining the Associateship of the College in 1922.
In 1923 he went to the Gold Coast to join the staff of the Ashanti Goldfields Corporation at Obuasi. He held successively the appointments of assistant surveyor and sampler, acting surveyor and chief surveyor, and was subsequently transferred to the mine staff, becoming senior mine captain in 1934. Later in that year he was transferred to Bibiani (1927), Ltd., as assistant manager, and in 1935 was appointed manager, a position which he held at the time of his death.
Mr. Duns was elected a Member of the Institution in 1944.
