John Esao Dew is presumed to have died at sea early in 1942 at the age of 31. He and his wife embarked in South Africa, on their return to West Africa, and the vessel in which they sailed was lost by enemy action. They were not among the known survivors.
Mr. Dew graduated with the 1st class diploma from the Camborne School of Mines in 1931, and for upwards of two years was engaged in underground operations with the Devonshire Baryta Co., Ltd., Christow, Devonshire. He subsequently worked as surveyor and general assistant with the Wrentnal Baryta, Co., Ltd., in Ayrshire until September, 1934.
In the following month he went to Korea as mine shift boss at the Great Nurupi Mine, Teiyudo. In 1937, he joined the staff of the Taquah and Abosso Mine on the Gold Coast, mid was returning from leave at the date of his death.
Mr. Dew was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1936.
