William Westaway Daw died of pneumonia in France on November 12th, 1918.
He was educated partly in Norway and at King’s College School, London, and commenced his technical training at the Camborne School of Mines, where he had a four years’ course and passed in a large variety of subjects. On the completion of his course, between 1904 and 1905, he spent about six months travelling in West Africa, and from 1906 to 1907 he was assistant engineer on the Rosario and Consuelo Mines, Mexico.
From 1908 to 1910, he was manager of the Parbola Tin Mine, Cornwall, during its transition stage from the Court of Chancery, and afterwards while it was worked as a private concern by Mr. Blackburn.
In January, 1911, he its appointed manager of the Tokosea Mines, West Africa, and in July, 1912, became assistant general manager to the Ashanti Riverland Concessions, Ltd.
He joined H.M. Forces during the war and held a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers. Mr. Daw was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1914.
