Thomas Percy Carr died at Bournemouth on March 16th, 1938, aged 48 years.
He studied at the Royal School of Mines from 1907-10 and obtained his Associateship in mining. From 1910-11 he was on the staff of Messrs. Fraser & Chalmers, at Erith, and in the latter year he returned to the Royal School of Mines as demonstrator in mine surveying.
Later in 1911 he was appointed surveyor and engineer with the Mazapil Copper Co., Mexico, and in 1913 he went to Spain where he was for five years assistant mining engineer at Rio Tinto.
During, 1918 and 1919 he served with the Royal Engineers, and in 1919 he returned to Spain and was appointed manager of coal mines in Badajos. In 1921, he became manager of the Compania Minera Anglo-Hispana, and in 1922 he went to Tarragona as manager to the Minas de Alforja. In the following year he returned to England where he spent two years as metallurgist and chemist at Mill Close Mines, Ltd., in Derbyshire.
He next visited Cuba, in 1926, where he was assistant manager of the Oil Trust, Ltd., returning once again to Spain in 1928. After a short time with the Alquife Mines & Railway Co., Ltd. he returned to England in 1931.
Mr. Carr became a Student of the Institution in 1910 and was transferred to Associateship in 1918.
