William Carmichael died in West Africa in February, 1935, at the age of 32.
For ten years from September, 1935, he worked with the Lambton, Hetton and Joicey Collieries, Ltd., Co. Durham, first as mining apprentice and afterwards as assistant surveyor.
In 1930, he went to West Africa to take up an appointment as chief surveyor to the Bibiani (1927), Ltd., Dunkwa, Gold Coast Colony, and was with that company at the date of his death.
Mr. Carmichael was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1932.
