Cecil Awdry Campbell was drowned at sea on or about September 16th, 1918, aged 32 years.

He received his scientific training at Henderson’s Mining School, Truro, and in 1907 went to the Malay States, where for seven years he was employed in prospecting and mining in various parts of the Peninsula. His last position, which he held for about twelve months prior to his joining the Army, was on the staff of Messrs. Nutter & Pearse, of Ipoh, Perak.

He obtained a commission in the Devonshire Regiment in 1915, and was promoted Lieutenant in 1918. He was a passenger on the steamship ‘Hirano Maru,’ which was torpedoed and sunk at sea; and he was not among the few that were saved.

Mr. Campbell was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1914.
