Frank Morris Brittain died of cholera whilst on active service in Mesopotamia on July 2nd, 1916. He was 44 years of age, and in the capacity of Red Cross Orderly had served in France and Serbia before proceeding to Mesopotamia.
Mr. Brittain’s, professional experience included eighteen months’ practical work in the various departments of mining and in tributing and prospecting. For two year he was assayer on the Ayrshire gold mine, Rhodesia, after which he spent several years in the service of the Consolidated Gold Fields of South Africa, Ltd., and its subsidiary companies. During this period he managed copper mines in Rhodesia, developed a tungsten property, and for eighteen months was travelling engineer to the company, and inspected and reported on various mining properties in South Africa.
When war broke out he had been residing in England for more than a year.
Mr. Brittain was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1907.
