Percy Blight died on 8th March, 1964, as the result of an accident. He had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1930.
Professor K.C. Dunham writes: Percy Blight, Associate Member, died at the age of 70 while on a prospecting trip in Upper Teesdale. Born at Camborne, he was apprenticed in the engineering department at South Crofty mine in 1908. After service in the Royal Artillery in the First World War he was assistant surveyor with Shropshire Mines, Ltd., at Minsterley, and from 1926 to 1934 chief surveyor at the Nenthead mines of Vieille Montagne Zinc Co. After work at Langares, Portugal, he managed the Cowgreen mine of Wrentnall Baryta Co. from 1939 to 1943, when this was intensively developed, and was manager of the Fluishiemere barytes mine until 1950. Since then he has been associated with various mining enterprises, chiefly in the northern Pennines.
He will be remembered for his many services to the small metalliferous mining industry in the United Kingdom, and leaves many friends in Teesdale, among them many who shared his enthusiasm for minerals.
