George Henry Blakemore died at Sydney, New South Wales, on March 22nd, 1941, at the age of 72.
His first professional appointment was obtained in October, 1888, as chief assayer to the Central Broken Hill Co., now associated with the Sulphide Corporation, which he held until January, 1891. He then joined the staff of the British Broken Hill Co., with whom he remained in charge of the blast furnace department for about two and a half years, when the company was taken over by the Broken Hill Proprietary, and until August, 1895, he was in charge of the 17 lead blast furnaces as chief assistant under Kochler.
He next accepted an appointment with the Smelting Company of Australia, Ltd., at Dapto, New South Wales, where he supervised the erection of the plant and remained in charge until the end of 1898.
He was subsequently appointed to take charge of gold mines in the Gundagai District, N.S.W., and of the Einasleigh Copper Mine in Queensland, but in 1901 he returned to New South Wales as mine manager and later as general manager of the Great Cobar Copper Mine.
After about two years spent outside the Commonwealth he engaged in private practice in Sydney, and was also consulting engineer to a number of mining companies, notably the Tin Dredging Co. in Siam.
Mr. Blakemore was elected a Member of the Institution in 1903.
