Donald Douglas Belcham died at Redruth, Cornwall, on 2nd June, 1961, at the age of 69.
Mr. Belcham was a pupil for three years with Crompton and Co., Ltd., Chelmsford, from 1906, and then studied engineering at the University of London for two years from 1909 to 1911. He joined British Westinghouse Co., Ltd., in October, 1911, and for two years superintended the erection and testing of general engineering plant.
In 1913 Mr. Belcham was appointed electrical engineer with East Pool and Agar, Ltd., and was promoted chief mechanical and electrical engineer in 1921, remaining in that position until 1933; he was also chief engineer with Tolgus Mines, Ltd., during the period 1923-1929; chief engineer, Alluvial Tin Deposits, Ltd., in 1929; and chief engineer, Beach Deposits, Ltd., from 1933 to 1935. He was promoted acting superintendent with East Pool and Agar, Ltd., in 1933, and mine superintendent in 1937. Mr. Belcham remained in that position until 1949 when he was appointed manager of South Crofty, Ltd. He was appointed to their board of directors in 1956, but ill-health compelled him to relinquish the post of manager. He served on the board of directors until his death.
Mr. Belcham was elected to Associate Membership of the Institution in 1936.
