Roland Henry Aldworth died in Johannesburg on 10th October, 1959, at the age of 59, after a long illness.
He was born in Cape Province and educated at King Edward VII School, Johannesburg. He began prospecting in the field on his own account in 1930 in Southern Rhodesia and was successful in finding the Tshontanda tungsten mine which he managed in 1934. His second success was the Kapata tin mine, and it was also Mr. Aldworth who pioneered and originally pegged the claims in the Kamativi tin mine in March, 1936. He managed this also until 1951 and later carried on further mining operations on his own account and for Wankie Tin and Tungsten (Pvt), Ltd.
He was elected an Affiliate of the Institution in 1957.
