Announcement Date: June 9, 2018
SURFACE – Eleven members turned up for the Foul Clough Walk near Todmorden. The weather was lovely totally opposite to last year when the walk had to be cancelled. We saw evidence of the Foul Clough Colliery’s coal mining activities ranging from the late 1700s up to the early 1900s.
We also saw the remnants the last working Colliery of the Temperley Pipe Works circa 1960. Also the Geology of the area was clearly evident with three coal seams being clearly exposed to the elements.
All the members enjoyed a jolly good root around the old coal mines remains and many geological samples were gained. A full report can be found in the August 2018 newsletter.
