SURFACE – Five of our members enjoyed a fascinating surface tour of the mining remains at Nenthead. Despite some small showers and threatening clouds, the weather was kind, allowing us to visit the main parts of the site in comfort. Pooling our individual knowledge, we were able to give a good account of the mining features, geology, and history of the site. Starting from the car park, we inspected the portal to the Caplecleugh Low Level with its water flow recording equipment apparently installed earlier this year, before crossing the yard to find similar equipment in the entrance to Rampgill Level.
