Although it was sunk next to the Cheshire Lines Committee Railway, Bents Lane was not connected to it. It was, however, linked to Bredbury Colliery, 1 km to the NNE, by a tramway. In its earlier years, therefore, it was probably listed under the latter name and their histories are intimately linked.

The closure of Bents Lane Pit in 1876 probably marks the demise of the Bredbury Coal Co., but it reopened in 1880-81 under the Bredbury Coal & Iron Co. John & Robert Stott-Milne from Trench House, Wem, Shropshire, were working Bredbury by 1885, but it is not until 1889 that they are listed as working Bents Lane. They worked the Peacock and New Mines until May 1899, when J. & R. Stott-Milne went bankrupt after being in financial difficulties for several years.
